Using HP-VUE

Accelerated Technical Training for New Users of HP-UX Workstations

Format

  • A half-day (four hours).
  • Emphasis on practical skills.
  • Hands-on.

Objectives

You will practice and learn to:
  • be comfortable with HP-UX's window system
  • use the mouse
  • manipulate windows
  • manage icons and the desktop
  • select, populate, and name workspaces
  • create, view, edit, print, rename, annotate, delete files
  • navigate the filesystem
  • get help
  • cut and paste text from one window to another
  • start and stop terminal emulators
  • customize window system appearance and behavior
  • use the file manager, trash can, printers, and toolboxes
  • login, logout, lock the screen
  • monitor print queues and workstation workload
  • modify the root menu
  • add a button to the control panel
  • in general, be a productive workstation user

Method

The course consists of a guided tour of the main features of HP-VUE, HP-UX's window system. Periodic exercises rehearse HP-VUE usage. You discover new features and reinforce the techniques learned. The course encourages exploration of this powerful graphical environment.

Classroom Setup

Delivery of this course requires a classroom equipped with:
  1. an overhead projector
  2. a PC or workstation for each student
  3. a PC or workstation for the instructor
  4. a projector for the instructor's computer screen
  5. workbook repro
  6. textbook ordering
Travel outside the San Francisco Bay Area requires reimbursement of the instructor's travel expense.
